Primary seawater-activated systems for torpedoes
Saft silver-chloride magnesium (AgCl-Mg) battery systems are designed for the propulsion of lightweight combat torpedoes such as Stingray and the A244 series.
Through a scoop located in the hull of the torpedo, a continuous flow of electrolyte removes the heat, gas and mineral mud produced by the discharge and corrosion reaction.
Saft is the sole qualified supplier of the Seawater-activated V616 and V616SE battery for A244 Light Weight Torpedoes (LWT). A244 torpedoes, equipped with V616 batteries, have been used successfully by 14 navies worldwide, especially in South America, Asia, and Southern and Northern Europe.
