Construction tools

Saft rechargeable batteries have helped to set users of portable tools free from their struggles with the power cord. Cordless tools are far more manoeuvrable, making it easier for people to work in confined spaces, or where access is limited, such as narrow roofs or in sewer tunnels. They also increase safety as there is less risk of electric shock if the tool is exposed to water while working in damp or wet conditions.

High power batteries for heavy duty tools

High energy batteries, with voltages up to 36 V, now enable cordless design to be applied to heavy duty tools that need large amounts of power, including hammer drills, circular saws and jig saws.

Saft has designed a range of Ni-Cd (VRE) and Ni-MH (VH) products to meet the specific needs of power tools including:

  • wide operating temperature range (as low as -40°C), such as when tools are left overnight in a truck during winter and are expected to work in the morning
  • fast charge capability. Workers swap batteries when they are empty and expect them to charge in about 30 minutes. A single pack can be recharged 3 to 4 times a day
  • long life duration. Workers expect batteries to provide 700 to 1,000 full charge/discharge cycles.
  • high discharge capability. Some tools, such as jig saws can drain up to 80 A over a few seconds
  • robust design, to resist the knocks and general abuse of construction site usage

High power Ni-MH cell

Saft has recently introduced the VH Cs 3200 XL Ni-MH cell that allows continuous currents up to 40 A combined with 30% more life duration compared to the previous generation.

High drain Li-ion

The latest development in this market is Saft’s Li-ion MP HD (High Drain) cell that can discharge at currents up to 38 A.
